Vagit Alekperov gets larger stake in LUKOIL than ÑonocoPhillips |
On May 6, president of OJSC “LUKOIL” Vagit Alekperov acquired though Gatecraft Limited 11,130 million shares of OJSC “LUKOIL” worth more than $1 billion. LUKOIL’s vice president Leonid Fedun also expanded his stake in the company. Now Alekperov holds 173,511 million, which is 20,4 percent. The total value of the block of shares exceeds $17 billion. President of OJSC “LUKOIL” Vagit Alekperov is the major shareholder with a stake larger than that of ConocoPhillips who owns 20 percent of the company. Alekperov needs only 5% of shares to get blocking shareholding in OJSC “LUKOIL”, but this does not really matter. Last year, Vagit Alekperov and his deputy Leonid Fedun increased their joint stake to 25,3 percent and are able to block any unwanted decision.
