Igor Sechin to supervise oil and gas industry |
The former first vice premier, Sergey Ivanov who has been appointed vice prime minister, will oversee the defense industry, transport, communications and security services, while vice premier Igor Sechin will take charge of the civil industry and energy.
Igor Sechin was born in Leningrad on September 7, 1960. Graduated in 1984 from Leningrad State University; majored in Portuguese and French. After graduation, he worked as translator in the foreign trade company “Tekhnoexport” in Mozambique, and as military translator in Angola; for some time he worked in the foreign affairs department of the Leningrad University. 1988 - 1991, instructor, then head instructor in the Department of foreign economic relations of the Executive Committee of the Leningrad Soviet of People's Deputies. 1991-1996, chief specialist, assistant director, chief of staff of the vice-mayor, chief of staff of the 1st vice-mayor – chairman of the External Relations Department of the St. Petersburg Mayor’s Office (V.Putin).
1996-1997, first grade specialist, deputy section head in the Foreign Economic Relations Section of the Presidential Business Management Department (where Putin was deputy department head). 1997-1998, section head in the Main Presidential Control Department, where Putin was again his boss. 1998, chief of staff of the first deputy head of the presidential administration (V. Putin). 1999, head of the secretariat of the first deputy prime minister.
2000, deputy head of the Administration of the RF President (V.Putin). June 2000, reappointed to the same post. As deputy head of the Presidential Administration, he handled information and documentation support of the president’s work, presented documents for signature, issued presidential decrees, orders and instructions, was in charge of document management, state secrets protection and people’s addresses to the President. March 25, 2004, after the reorganization of the Presidential Administration, he was appointed presidential aid (in addition to retaining the previous position); July 2004, chairman of the board of directors of OJSC “NK “Rosneft”, reelected in June 2006.
