Nuclear power industry executive first appointed RF energy minister


 
The former president of CJSC “Atomstroyexport”, Sergey Shmatko has been appointed energy minister of the Russian Federation.  In recent years, CJSC “Atomstroyexport” has made substantial progress in promotion of Russian nuclear technologies to international markets.   The major player of Russia’s nuclear power industry, CJSC “Atomstroyexport” is successfully operating in China, India, Iran, Bulgaria and other countries.   
 
Sergey Shmatko was born in Stavropol on September 26, 1966. In 1983-1990, he was a student of the mathematics and mechanics department and political economics department of the Ural State University  (Sverdlovsk), and in 1990-1992, student of the economics department of the University of Marburg.  In 2004, he graduated from the Higher Academic Courses of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces with a degree in defense and security of the Russian Federation.  1985-1988, service in a nuclear submarine unit of the Northern Navy.  1994, director of RFI GmbH,  the Russian investment consulting company that was an official representative of RFFI in the European Union. June 1995 – December 1997, research officer of the Institute of Investment Problems, head of external relations department of the All-Russian Bank of Regional Development.  1997-1999, head of the economic strategy analysis of Rosenergoatom.  1999-2001, economic strategy advisor to general director of VNIIAES. 2002 – 2005, chairman of the State Conversion Fund. February-June  2005, advisor to board chairman of Gazprombank, vice president of CJSC “Atomstroyexport”.  June 2005, president of CJSC “Atomstroyexport”. May 12, 2008, RF minister of energy.
