JSC “Elektrokabel” Kolchuginsky Plant” is located in the center of Russia, in a small town of Kolchugino with a population of 50 thousand people. Geographically, the town is very favorably located: a little more than 100 km away from Moscow, it has highway and railway infrastructure. The company was established in 1939 and included cable workshop, red copper workshop, cast iron shop.
Today, JSC “Elektrokabel” Kolchuginsky Plant” is a successful and effective company manufacturing a wide range of cable and wiring products and metal mesh. For many years, the company remains one of the largest Russian manufacturers in terms of output (according to leading rating agencies), and ranks among the cable industry leaders in terms of copper content in cable products (according to Association “Elektrokabel”, Russia).
The plant manufactures more than 22000 sizes of cable and wiring products, many products are made to customers’ specifications.
Designing and manufacturing of new products is an ongoing process that uses state of the art and high tech equipment by world’s leading manufacturers. Over the past 6 years, investments into the company reached ?55 million. One of the major projects recently implemented by the company is construction and commissioning of cross-linked polyethylene insulation power cable workshop. The official opening ceremony was held on 21 April 2005, and was attended by executives of Russia’s leading power consuming companies, such as JSC “Russian Railways” and construction companies. The workshop is now operating to design capacity and manufactures low-voltage (1-6kV), medium-voltage (up to 35 kV) and high-voltage (up to 110 kV) cables.
To meet the growing market demand, the company takes ongoing efforts to improve and develop production capabilities. The technological development program provides for modernization and renovation of equipment within the next few years, and investment of more than ?42 million, primarily in production expansion.
The innovation-oriented policy, skilled engineering and technical personnel, quality materials, etc., allow the company to manufacture premium quality products. It is the quality of the cable and wiring products that is the main competitive strength of the company. It is especially important in the highly competitive market environment.
Therefore, product quality is a kind of ideology that dominates all production processes.
Quality control is performed at each production stages. Operation of all main manufacturing equipment is controlled by a computer network that allows to track all production processes. Finished products undergo comprehensive acceptance tests on test facilities installed in each workshop.
Throughout its history, the company paid special attention to quality control issues, and in 1999 it put in place ISO 9002 quality management system, and in 2002 – GOST R ISO 9001-2001 QMS. Technical inspections annually performed by outsourced auditors confirm the company’s ability to manufacture superior quality cable products.
All of the company’s products are certified via mandatory and facultative certification systems according to requirements of Gosstandart of Russia, 90% products are certified to comply with industrial and fire safety standards via GOST R system. Some products are manufactured to European standards and are provided with DIN VDE standards (Germany, Czech Republic). Efforts are underway to launch certification to other international standards.
Strategic partners and customers include companies of the power industry, atomic energy industry, communications, shipbuilding, metallurgy, railways and construction industry. The company’s cables are used in East Siberia – Pacific Ocean oil pipeline, nuclear power station “Busher” (Iran), underground railroad of Moscow and St.Petersburg, etc.
The company traditionally supplies cable and wiring products and metal mesh to the countries of CIS and European Union.

The company has 8 workshops and 7 finished product warehouses. The products are manufactured using equipment by leading machinery companies of Germany, Spain, Austria, Finland, France, England.
