ОJSC “NIIPTknimmash” was founded on August 4, 1959 as the Penza branch of the Research and Design Institute of Chemical Engineering. On June 24, 1965, the Institute was renamed to the All-Union Research and Design Institute of Chemical Engineering controlled by the State Committee of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering of the USSR State Planning Committee. On October 18, 1976, VNIIPTkhimmash became the key institute of the Ministry of Chemical Engineering.
The Institute was responsible for conducting research and development works in all areas of the chemical engineering industry (lead plating, rubberizing, conservation of equipment, welding and cutting of non-ferrous metals and alloys, etc.), production engineering, labor management, preparation and planning of production at all branches of VPO “Soyuzkhimmash”. VNIIPTkhimmash performed these functions as independent contractor and later as the central coordinating body of NPO Penzakhimmash.
During the years of decline in the chemical engineering industry, the great potential of OJSC “NIIPTKnimmash” (it became a public company in 1992) was almost unused. Enterprises of the chemical engineering industry had no funds to finance modernization and retooling. However, in the new market environment, customer companies that purchased heavy chemical equipment weighing up to 20 tons found it more efficient to deal with a small and flexible business able to run turn-key projects (including R&D, manufacturing and testing) and to supply new or overhauled equipment. Therefore, the institute switched to development and manufacturing of high performance equipment for the chemical, petroleum, energy, food processing and pharmaceutical industries.
The beginning of new history of OJSC “NIIPTKhimmash” is associated with the arrival of a young and energetic team of managers who turned the purely scientific organization into a dynamic company (sales growth was more than 70 percent over the period of 2002-2009, production floor space increased almost twofold and machine tool fleet was modernized).
With the strong R&D and manufacturing potential and state of the art equipment, the company is able to meet the needs of the most demanding customers. The successful operation was also determined by the advantage of using the institute’s technical documents and know-hows in the sphere of rubberizing, metal forming and mechanical processing. The company conducts research and development work both independently and jointly with the country’s leading research organizations, such as OJSC “VNIINEFTEMASH” and OJSC “NIIKHIMMASH”, etc.
OJSC “NIIPTkhimmash” has established itself as a leader in the following areas:
-High performance bellows expansion joints;
-Technology and equipment for rubberizing and conservation for various types of chemical equipment, components and parts;
-Heat exchange equipment (heat exchangers, refrigerators, condensers, evaporators);
-Liquid strainers and drain filters, mixers, reaction vessels;
-Capacity apparatuses for storage of liquids and gases;
All equipment is manufactured in compliance with the RF regulations and licenses issued by the Russian Authorities for Technical Supervision. All products have certificates of compliance with state standards (GOSTs), high tech equipment is protected by RF patents.

OJSC “NIIPTKHIMMASH” has a quality management system in place, which complies with ISO 9001:2000, GOST R ISO 9001-2001.
The quality management system was certified in June 2009 by LLC “Legion” of SDS “Tekhnotest”.

License for collection, transportation and disposal of hazardous waste, issued by the Federal Service for Environmental, Technical and Atomic Supervision, No. OT-50-000861 (58), dated November 7, 2008.
License for use of ionizing radiation generators, issued by the Federal Supervision Agency for Consumer Protection and Human Welfare, No. 58.02.02.002.L.000046.12.07 Dated December 26, 2007.

The issue of lease/rent issues have never been raised.
